KVM Switch: An inexpensive option to manage multiple PCs with a console
multiple computers can be controlled using a single keyboard, monitor and mouse (KVM) with the help of a KVM switch. They are useful in places where there are multiple computers and devices without separate input for them. These switches across multiple platforms as Sun, IBM, HP, Dell, Windows Vista/2003/XP/2000, UNIX and MAC. They help in proper utilization of space and cable management. Control can be switched between computers with the push of a button on the KVM switch.
There are several types of KVM switches available on the market today. The USB KVM allows the user to control up to sixteen USB devices through a single USB keyboard, mouse and VGA monitor. These switches come in 2, 4, 8 and 16 port versions. USB KVM Switch has a built in display screen which helps in server management. Some models of these switches include features audio and microphone. These drives are hot plug and can be controlled via access keys, the screen display and buttons in front of the unit.
