How to increase my computer’s Internet downlaod speed in a LAN network ?
We have a LAN network in our University . Some students have great download speed via special softwares or other tricks .
I want those softwares or the tricks .
Can any one help me ?
Use IDM (Internet Download Manager) one of the best application available. This is the only way to get maximum download speed besides hacking Administrator Account.

WindowsXP we all know the network is so powerful, the performance of the LAN function is also very good, I will brief you on the following WindowsXP LAN connection. When you create a home or small office network, running WindowsXPProfessional or WindowsXPHomeEdition computer will connect to the local area network (LAN).
When you install WindowsXP, it will detect network card, but will also create a local connection. Like all other connection types, as it will appear in “Network Connections” Folder In. By default, the local connection is always active. Local connection is the only auto-create and activate the connection type.
If you disconnect the local connection, the connection will no longer be automatically activated. This is because of your hardware configuration File Will record this information, and adapt to changes in you, as the location of mobile users demand. For example, if you travel to the field sales offices, and for the local use of a separate LAN connection does not enable the hardware configuration file, then do not waste time waiting for network card connection times out, the adapter will not even try to connect.
If the computer has multiple network cards, each card of the local connection icon will appear in the “Network Connections” folder.
Can use Ethernet, wireless, home phone line (HPNA), cable modem, DSL, IrDA (infrared), Token Ring, FDDI, ATM, IP and ATM through the simulation of local area network, to create local area network. Simulation-based Virtual LAN adapter driver (for example, LAN emulation protocol).

Protocol (such as TCP / IP) defines your computer and other computer communication language used.
According to the different local connection state, “Network Connections” folder icons appearance may change, or the notification area icon will appear in a separate. If the computer does not detect the network card, the local connection icon does not appear in “Network Connections” folder. The following diagram illustrates the different local connection icon.
Then how to create a local area network connect?
If you have installed a network adapter, also installed a home or small office network, then you have connected to the LAN. If your WindowsXPProfessional computer is part of the corporate network, then you have connected to the LAN. When you start your computer, will detect your network adapter, and the LAN connection will start automatically. And other types of connection, a LAN connection is created automatically and do not need click the LAN connection you can start it.

What if I’m connected to LAN & WiFi on same network? What connection gets used?
If I’m connected to a network by LAN and by WiFi, which connection will Windows use to connect to the network/Internet?
I have 2 different IP addresses on the network.
This is asked just out of interest, because I can’t seem to find any info about it online.
I know that if one connection gets dropped, the other one continues to work (probably) seamlessly. But it’d be interesting to know which connection is used if both are available.

The primary is set as a default in your networking preferences. It may or may not automatically switch to the other if the primary is lost depending also on settings. Some OS versions will only allow one connection and will disable the other. (even though it may show an IP for each, doesn’t mean that you have both available without changing the preferences.)
